横浜市にある1980年代後半に建てられた集合住宅の、標準的な2SLDKの間取りの住宅のリノベーション計画である。

この部屋は高台の最上階で、南と西の2面に5つの開口部と2つのバルコニーを持ち、みなとみらいや富士山、丹沢連峰を一望することが出来る場所に位置している。この既存の環境と魅力を最大に生かすことを考えた。

まず、間仕切りを取り払い大きなワンルームとすることで、５つの窓を連続させ、ぐるりと周辺の景色を連続させた。そしてワンルームの中央に上下２段のハコを配置した。ハコは寝室であり、遊び場でもあり、将来的には子供部屋にもなるような、多様な用途に対応できる空間である。また、ハコの配置から生まれる外周部との隙間のスペースは単なる廊下ではなく、デスクと本棚のある窓際の場所は書斎に、収納のある場所はウォークスルークローゼットのように、周りとの関係によって様々な場所となる。ハコによってワンルーム空間の中に回遊したり、登り降りしたり、見え隠れしたりという多様な空間体験を創り出す。

新しく挿入したハコと既存の環境が関係し、ひとつながりでありながら、様々な場所が作られる住宅になればと思う。

This project is a renovation plan for a typical 2SLDK unit in an apartment complex built in the late 1980s in Yokohama City. 

Situated on an elevated site on the top floor, the residence features five openings and two balconies facing south and west, offering sweeping views of Minato Mirai, Mount Fuji, and the Tanzawa Mountains. The design focuses on maximizing the potential and appeal of this existing environment.

First, all interior partitions were removed to create a large one-room space, allowing the five windows to be visually linked and the surrounding scenery to unfold continuously around the room. At the center of this one-room layout, a two-level “box” was introduced. This box functions as a bedroom and a play area, and in the future can serve as a children’s room—an adaptable space designed to accommodate various uses. The gaps created between the box and the exterior perimeter do not simply act as corridors; depending on their relationship to the surroundings, they transform into different places. For example, the window-side area with a desk and bookshelves becomes a study, while another area with storage functions as a walk-through closet.

Through the presence of this box, the one-room space invites diverse spatial experiences—circulating around, climbing up and down, appearing and disappearing from view.

By allowing the newly inserted box to interact with the existing environment, the aim is to create a home that remains a unified whole while offering a variety of distinct and engaging places.
